My wife and I had these at a B&B a while ago, and we kept the recipe. We’ve made some changes. They’re pretty spectacular.
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup cream
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
chocolate chips
1/2 cup Crasins or other dried fruit
huge granulated sugar crystals
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup cream
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
chocolate chips
1/2 cup Crasins or other dried fruit
huge granulated sugar crystals
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Mix the dry ingredients. Cut in the softened butterĀ (not melted, we’re not savages), and then add the wet ingredients. Add the chocolate chips to taste and the dried fruit. Mix just until blended–do not overmix.
Knead in bowl, and place dough ball on a greased baking sheet. Flatten the dough into a roughly circle shape, about half to three quarters of an inch thick. Sprinkle with the huge granulated sugar crystals, and push them down a little bit. Score the dough into 8 pieces.
Bake between 13 and 18 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
